Prof. Peter Friedland and Dr. Michael Jay in discussion with
April 3, 2024 News

This March, the Foundation team flew in from across Australia to Perth for the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery’s (ASOHNS) Annual Scientific Meeting.

It was a full week, and included our strategic and regular Board meetings, attendance at the Indigenous Health Workshop (a highlight of the ASOHNS ASM) and conference, plus a visit to the University of Western Australia (UWA) Medical School to meet with Professor Peter Friedland and his team.

Peter has taken the role of Chair in OHNS at UWA, a position established with Foundation funding back in 2000. He has already made great strides in the role, showing a great depth of care in fighting against healthcare inequity, amongst other ENT and WA-specific challenges.

Our Board were also able to talk with members of Peter’s research team, including current Awardees Pedro Amarante-Andrade, Ruth Thornton, Harvey Coates and one of the organising committee members for the ASOHNS ASM, Dr. Stephanie Flukes. An update from previous Senior-Principal Research Fellow Daniel Brown was also in the mix, and we are proud to see our Alumni in Perth going from strength to strength in improving ENT outcomes for patients.

The UWA team has an impressive array of research arms across ENT, and we look forward to seeing further outputs from Peter and his team in years to come.
