Dr. Pedro Amarante Andrade

Dr. Pedro Amarante Andrade is a voice researcher, biophysicist, and speech pathologist who has worked in clinical and educational settings in Sweden, the UK, and Czechia. After graduating in Brazil, Pedro moved to the UK to work at the prestigious Royal National Throat, Nose, and Ear Hospital in London. While there, he completed his Master’s degree in Voice Pathology at University College London.

He was then offered the opportunity to pursue a PhD in the biophysics of voice under the guidance of renowned European voice physicist Dr. Jan Švec in Czechia. During his PhD studies, Pedro had the opportunity to work at various prestigious European institutions, including Sweden’s esteemed Karolinska Institutet, where he developed an innovative vocal tract model used to assess the impact of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises on voice production.

Subsequently, he was invited to join the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague research team when he secured the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant to investigate the potential of electrical stimulation on the voice. Pedro relocated to Perth in 2023 and is currently working as a voice specialist at Curtin University. Since then, he has established a new voice research lab equipped with a state-of-the-art High-Speed camera.
