Dr. Xiao Liu
Dr. Xiao Liu, a senior research fellow at the University of Wollongong, is a multidisciplinary researcher with a diverse academic background spanning biomedical engineering, biology, and chemistry. She commenced her educational journey with a Bachelor biomedical engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, progressing to earn a Master’s in Biology from the National University of Singapore and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Wollongong.
Xiao’s expertise encompasses biofabrication, 3D cell printing, innovative biomaterial design, and controlled release of therapeutic agents. With a prolific research output of 60 peer-reviewed publications garnering over 2500 citations, her impact on the field is substantial. Notably, in the past five years, she has focused on pioneering a coaxial 3D printing platform for islet cell transplantation, electroactive scaffolds for osteogenesis, and collagen-based scaffolds for clinical applications.
Xiao’s is collaborating with Prof. Jonathan Clark to extend her research from the laboratory bench to bedside. Their collaborative efforts focus on the development of biomimetic scaffolds for accelerated osteogenesis. This transformative research aligns with Xia’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and its practical applications in clinical contexts.
