Dr. Diane Maresco-Pennisi

Dr. Diane Maresco-Pennisi is a scientist. She completed a lab-based PhD studying immunology at The Ohio State University in the United States. Her research focus is chronic sinus and ear infections.

Since 2016, Diane has been a member of the ENT research team of The University of Queensland led by Professor Anders Cervin. She has contributed to multiple clinical trials aimed at finding new treatments for chronic sinus and ear infections.

Diane and her colleagues are currently running an MRFF-funded randomised clinical trial testing a sinonasal microbiota transfer therapy for chronic sinus infections. Alarmed by the high level of ear disease experienced by Australian children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestry, Diane began to collaborate with Dr Andrea Coleman and Dr Lisa Waia on research studying chronic ear infections in Australian children with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethnicity.
