Awardee A/Prof Payal Mukherjee recently spoke at the Sydney Innovation Research Symposium on her career and how it has influenced her pursuit of advocacy for gender equality in medicine and careers in STEMM.

Payal is the Royal Prince Alfred’s Institute of Academic Surgery’s Ear, Nose and Throat Research Lead, and Associate Professor at The University of Sydney. Her current projects (including those sponsored by the Foundation) include work on innovative 3D printing and tissue engineering.

Payal’s talk is more personal than she is used to presenting at research conferences, including detail on her struggles and actions to overcome these.

“A critical part of this talk was the support I received from the Foundation that really helped shape my academic career,” says Payal “especially at a very lonely and unsupported time when I was getting started.” Thank you to Payal for sharing your story with the Symposium, Foundation and public at large.
