The Art, Science and Future of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

Frontiers 2006 was held at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove, Queensland on 26, 27 and 28 July 2006.

The Scientific Advisor, Professor Peter-John Wormald from the Department of Otolaryngology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, assisted the Trustees in preparing the programme. The conference’s theme was “clinical relevance and application of current advances in both technology and research”, as applied to Otorhinolaryngology, and included (for the first time) morning lectures, free afternoons and evening sessions.

International speakers included:

  • Professor Lloyd Minor from the Department of Otolaryngology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
  • Associate Professor Jens Ponikau from the Department of Otolaryngology at the Mayo Clinic
  • Associate Professor Jeffrey Myers from the M D Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas.

Local speakers included: Dr Keith Anandacoomaraswamy, Professor Marcus Atlas, Associate Professor Robert Berkowitz, Dr Alan Brichta, Associate Professor Harvey Coates, Associate Professor Hans-Henrik Dahl, Professor Michael Halmagyi, Professor Alan Mackay-Sim, Professor Denis Moss, Associate Professor Stephen O’Leary, Dr Harshita Pant, Dr Nirmal Patel, Dr Jim Pickles, Associate Professor Nicholas Saunders and Dr Miriam Welgampola.

Dr Chris Roberts, Chairman of Research Australia and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Cochlear Ltd, was guest speaker at the Conference Dinner.
