Dr. Benjamin Wei

Dr Benjamin Wei (MBBS, PhD, FRACS) is an ENT surgeon whose practice and research is specialised in Otology and Neurotology. After completing Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery training in Melbourne, Dr Wei undertook a surgical fellowship in lateral skull base surgery, otological surgery and cochlear implantation at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, USA.

In 2008, Dr Wei was awarded the Victorian Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research (a joint initiative of the Victorian Government and Australian Society for Medical Research) for his research on Pneumococcal Meningitis Post Cochlear Implantation: Risk Assessment and Prevention Strategies. He was the recipient of the 2007 Association for Research in Otolaryngology, American Academy of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgical Research Prize.

Dr Wei is an otologist and a cochlear implant surgeon at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He is a senior lecturer in Department of Otolaryngology, the University of Melbourne. His clinical expertise is in ear (otologic) surgery, cochlear implantation, and treating outer, middle, and inner ear diseases. His research has focused on pharmacological treatments for sudden sensorineural hearing loss and hearing protection during cochlear implant surgery through surgical techniques and real time intra-operative electrophysiological measurement.
