Associate Professor Oliver Sieber

Associate Professor Oliver Sieber is a Laboratory Head in the Personalised Oncology Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI). His group aims to understand the molecular pathology of human head and neck cancer in order to develop strategies to improve treatment and patient outcomes.

The research program of his laboratory focuses on the identification of clinically relevant molecular subtypes of cancer, translation of cancer molecular biomarkers into clinical applications, discovery of molecular mechanisms of cancer progression, and development of new drug combinations for the treatment of metastatic disease. His team has made major research contributions to the genetics and biology of cancer.

He heads a facility dedicated to the study of patient derived tumour organoids, equipped with liquid handling robotics and imaging systems.

Associate Professor Sieber received his PhD from University College London in 2004, and then undertook 6 years postdoctoral training at Cancer Research UK, the University of Oxford and the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research (LICR). He was Joint Laboratory Head at the LICR, Parkville, from 2009-12, before joining WEHI as Laboratory Head.
