Project Description
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, and recognise the continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Culturally led innovations: Solutions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ENT health issues across Australia
This is NICENT, the National Indigenous Coordination of ENT (NICENT) Outreach Project. It's an ambitious, multi-staged project that will engage directly with ENT Health Professionals and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a culturally appropriate way, to map and understand ENT health services across Australia.
We will glean a robust dataset on:
What ENT health services currently exist (and where)
ENT health priorities
What has worked, what hasn't
Optimising future ENT outreach in communities
This will allow us to create guides and support ENT surgeons and clinicians to implement effective and culturally safe ENT Outreach services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. It will also open up opportunities for future Indigenous leaders of ENT research and healthcare.
Ultimately, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led engagement and empowerment, we can confidently approach State and Federal governments and advocate for the national co-ordination of its funded services, in a manner that genuinely improves health outcomes and changes life trajectories for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
