Dr. Nham Tran

Dr. Nham Tran

Dr Nham Tran is an Associate Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, specialising in RNA technologies for diagnosing and treating head and neck cancers. His research focuses on developing RNA-based markers, particularly in saliva, as non-invasive tools for cancer detection, addressing the need for accessible and patient-centred diagnostics. He also investigates the genetic mechanisms driving cancer progression, enhancing our understanding of oncogenesis.

Nham has pioneered molecular diagnostic tools, including triplex qPCR assays for detecting transcriptionally active HPV16, a risk factor in certain head and neck cancers. His bioinformatics work on viral interactomes has helped map disease pathways and identify potential therapeutic targets. Alongside his research, Nham is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. He has guided numerous higher-degree students, equipping them with the skills needed for careers in molecular biology and clinical research.
