Dr. Jeremy Pinyon
Dr. Pinyon is an auditory neuroscientist and Lecturer at the University of Sydney and Head of the Neuroregenerative Gene Therapy group. He completed his PhD with Prof. Gary Housley in the Translational Neuroscience Facility at UNSW Sydney in 2016 and undertook postdoctoral training as part of the Sensori-Motor Physiology and Therapeutics Group at UNSW, jointly leading the functional genomics development for the gene therapy program.
Through collaborations with Cochlear Ltd., clinicians, and several Australian and international institutions, the proof-of-concept pre-clinical studies conducted during Jeremy’s PhD and early postdoctoral years have evolved into a ground-breaking gene therapy clinical trial run out of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Jeremy joined the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney in September of 2021 as a Lecturer within the Chronic diseases theme, where his research focuses on basic research into auditory neuroscience and the translational development of the novel gene therapy strategy for improved hearing with cochlear implants, as well as its expansion into other applications outside the hearing space.
Jeremy’s technical expertise spans the use of animal models of deafness, cochlear implantation, and transgenics, to histology, advanced confocal and multiphoton imaging, molecular biology, optogenetics and electrophysiology.
