Dr. Jafri Kuthubutheen

Jafri graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2002. He undertook specialist ENT training and obtained his Australian Fellowship in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in 2010. In 2012 he left for Canada to become the Otology and Skull Base Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto where he was the inaugural J Pearson Fellow. He was awarded the Warren Jones Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the Fremantle Hospital Medical Research Foundation and the University of Western Australia and in 2017 he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the field of Cochlear Implantation from the University of Western Australia. He the supervisor of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Otology and Skull Base Fellowship program. He has published more than 30 papers, 3 book chapters and presented at many international conferences. His research interests are in the field of hearing loss, cochlear implantation, indigenous ear health, telemedicine, and skull base surgery. He currently holds consultant level appointments at three hospitals and is the current ENT Clinical Lead in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia and the Medical Advisor for the Ear Science Institute of Australia.
