Novel treatment strategy for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma
Dr. Debottam Sinha & Prof. Christopher Perry

Project Description

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a formidable disease known for its rapid spread to other organs. The main treatments-radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery-often lead to the cancer cells developing defences, allowing the disease to return. lmmunotherapy has emerged as a promising alternative treatment option for treating fast-growing cancers but has shown limited response. Eosinophils, a type of immune cell, are crucial for effective immunotherapy as they release substances that kill cancer cells and recruit other immune cells. Previous research has shown that a loss of eosinophils is linked to the progression of AdCC However, no studies have yet tested whether boosting eosinophils in the tumour environment could improve treatment outcomes of immunotherapy.

We believe that increasing eosinophils in AdCC tumours might slow disease progression and make immunotherapy significantly effective. Hence, we propose to perform thorough investigation using high throughput assays and cutting-edge technologies established by our research team, with the goal of finding a new treatment strategy that could offer hope to patients who do not respond well to current therapies.
