Sathish’s keen interest in Academic Surgery, and Skull Base Surgery in particular, has driven his pursuit of further overseas subspecialty training. The purpose of the Academic Surgeon-Scientist Fellowship is to prepare Dr. Paramasivan for a career in academic skull base surgery. The clinical and research exposure gained from overseas will allow him to better serve the South Australian community.
During the overseas component of the fellowship, Dr. Paramasivan will spend a year at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye and Ear infirmary/ Harvard University to develop techniques in advanced rhinology and endoscopic skull base/orbital surgery. He undertake a further year of skull base surgery training at the equally prestigious Addenbrooke’s Hospital/ Cambridge University. These fellowships will expose him to both advanced surgical techniques as well as translational research. The years abroad will allow him to expand his areas of research interest and nurture international collaborations which extend well into the future.
On completion of his overseas fellowships, Dr. Paramasivan will return to an academic position at the University of Adelaide. Here, he will join the world-renowned department alongside Professor Wormald and Professor Psaltis. The knowledge, training and relationships fostered from overseas provides a foundation from which Dr. Paramasivan can continue to ensure Adelaide remains a centre of excellence in ENT Surgery for generations to come.
