The Foundation wish to congratulate Professor Rob Shepherd AM, for his recent award in the 2020 Australia Day Honours. Professor Shepherd was award a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his significant service to biomedical research, and to education.
Professor Shepherd has been a pioneer in Australian medical research, being a key member of the team which created Australia’s cochlear implant, and leading the pre-clinical program at Bionic Vision Australia to develop a bionic eye. He was one of the first people to receive the Foundation’s flagship award, the Senior/Principal Research Fellowship (as it was then called) in 1996, with his most recent Foundation project being the “Evaluation of novel electrode materials for improved cochlear implant performance“.
