Congratulations to Dr. Ruth Thornton, who is one of the recipients of the 2021/22 WA Child Research Fund (WACRF) award.
The WACRF award program is established by the Department of Health in conjunction with Channel 7 Telethon Trust. The purpose of this program is to provide funding to advance health and medical research, specifically in adolescents and children in Western Australia (WA).
Ruth is the Co-lead of the Bacterial Respiratory Infectious Disease Group at the Telethon Kids Institute as well as a Senior Research Fellow at The Centre for Child Health Research at the University of Western Australia. Her proposal on “Developing improved therapeutics for treating otitis media and preventing need for repeat surgery” saw her awarded the Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Mid-Career Fellowship in 2022.
Ruth’s WACRF winning project is focused on “Advancing a Western Australian-led clinical trial to test the safety and tolerability of an anti-biofilm therapy in children with recurrent otitis media”.
